Dear 8th Grade Students and Parents:
In keeping with the Archdiocesan policy regarding eighth grade graduation, we would like to clarify some of the dates, dress codes, and expectations for the Class of 2017.
8th Grade Group Graduation Photo – Wednesday, April 5th at 8:15 a.m. in school.
Bring cap, tassel and PRESSED gown on a hanger, with student’s name on it. Students may come to school in dressy attire for the picture taking. Students need to bring their uniforms to change into after the Graduation photo.
8th Grade Individual Portraits – Wednesday, April 5th at the St. John Eudes School Library
(please refer to appointment letter sent home last week in the March 21 Weekly Envelope).
May Crowning – Friday, May 19th at 9:30 a.m.
DRESS CODE for MAY CROWNING:
Due to the religious nature of this event, modest and conservative attire is required.
Boys: Dress shirt with ties, dress pants, black socks and dark dress shoes. No tennis shoes!
Girls: MODEST and CONSERVATIVE dress or skirt and blouse (no mini skirts, no low cut, no form fitting, no strapless, no spaghetti straps, no bare back) and preferably low-heeled shoes (NO higher than 3” heels). Please bring a ROSARY.
Dresses for this event must be approved by Mrs. Danowitz during RECESS TIME
on the following dates: April 7th, April 25th, April 27th, May 4th or May 9th.
Bring dresses and shoes. Dresses may be worn for multiple occasions.
Final Exams – Tuesday, May 30th, Wednesday, May 31st, Thursday, June 1st and Friday, June 2nd (regular schedule – 2:55 p.m. dismissal).

All 8th Grade REQUIRED work for the year must be completed and turned in by Thursday, May 18th
(Major projects, homework, classwork, notebooks, projects, tests, absent work, etc.), includes 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Trimester work.
Student service hours (minimum of 20 hours – 5 hours for the school/parish and 15 hours for outside organizations)
are due to Ms. Stula by Friday, May 12th.
Please list any service hours completed that are in excess of the required 20 hours.
If possible, the service hours may be turned in early on May 5th.
Students are expected to complete work ON TIME as NO late work will be accepted after May 18th.
Students will not receive credit for work that is turned in late.
8th Grade Trip - The 8th Grade trip to Universal Studios had to be moved to Tuesday, May 23rd.
Graduates’ Retreat – Tuesday, June 6th, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Poverello of Assisi Retreat Center. Students are to come to school at regular time the day of the retreat. The school will provide a bus to transport the students to and from the retreat center.
Bus departs the school at 8:00am and returns at 2:30pm. As in a regular school day, students will be dismissed at 2:55 p.m.
Appropriate free dress (jeans okay) may be worn to the retreat. Please follow free dress guidelines as stated in the Parent-Student Handbook (online).
Graduation Prayer Service and Dinner Dance for Parents & Graduates – Wednesday, June 7th at 6:00 p.m. at St. John Eudes Church.
The Dinner Dance will be in Grill Hall. Noon Dismissal for 8th Grade if all required work is completed.

Boys: Dress shirt with tie, dress pants with dark belt, black socks and dark dress shoes. No tennis shoes!
(Dress jacket is optional).
Girls: MODEST dress, no miniskirts, no low cut, no form fitting, no strapless, no spaghetti straps,
no bare back, and preferably low-heeled dress shoes (NO higher than 3” heels).

Farewell Mass - Friday, June 9th at 8:15 a.m. (NO CAPS, Graduation Gowns only).

DRESS CODE FOR FAREWELL MASS
NO CAPS, GOWNS ONLY
Boys: Wear a WHITE long sleeved dress shirt with a long tie, dark dress pants, and GOWN only. Dark socks and dress shoes only. No tennis or athletic shoes!
Girls: Light-colored dressy dress and low-heeled dress shoes (NO higher than 3” heels), no espadrilles (can be the same shoes for Graduation Day or Prayer Service/Dinner Dance).

Graduation – Friday, June 9th, 6:00 p.m.
(BOTH Caps with tassel and gowns required) at St. John Eudes Church.
Students are to report to the 8th Grade Classroom (St. Joseph Calasanz Room) by 5:30 p.m. with cap, tassel and pressed gown.
All relatives and friends are invited to the church. Return the gowns to the School Office staff outside Grill Hall after the commencement exercises. Make sure the graduate’s name is on the bag. Students may keep the cap and tassel.
DRESS CODE FOR GRADUATION
GRADUATION CAP with TASSEL, PRESSED and WRINKLE-FREE GOWN for both boys and girls
Boys: White long sleeved dress shirt with a long tie, dark dress slacks, black socks and black dress shoes.
No tennis shoes!
Girls: Light-colored MODEST dresses/skirts/tops. No low cut, no form fitting, no strapless, no miniskirts, no spaghetti straps, no bare back, and preferably low-heeled dress shoes (NO higher than 3” heels). Natural looking make-up may be worn. Rule of thumb: If the make-up is noticed, there is too much and does not conform to school guidelines. Small earrings may be worn. Only French tips or pale pink polish on nails is allowed.

Please note:
• All outstanding balances are due before graduation. Final records (3rd Trimester Report Cards) will be sent to the high school of your choice only when fees are current.
• Student service hours (20 hours) due to Ms. Stula by Friday, May 12th.
• Gowns must be returned to the school after graduation ceremony. Graduates may keep their caps and tassels.
• Report cards for 8th Grade will be mailed after graduation. Transcripts will be mailed to the high schools after graduation.
• Dismissal time on Friday, June 9th is at 12:00 noon, IF ALL REQUIRED WORK IS COMPLETED.

We understand the expectations regarding the dress code, and realize that those who refuse to follow guidelines, will not be allowed to participate in the Commencement Exercises.
